Athens Area Weekend Roundup! June 28-30th

Happy Weekend Athens friends. Were still coming down from all the excitement of AthFest last weekend, but lucky for you… we still have fun going on here in the Classic City! There are lots of events throughout the weekend, along with the beginning of this week as we go into celebrating Independence Day! So if you’re looking for ways to spend the Fourth, be sure to scroll to the bottom to get some ideas. We hope you have a great weekend and Fourth!

For Kids:

The Wizard of Oz: Come watch a screening of the family friendly movie The Wizard of Oz at Athens Clarke County Library! Free, starting at 12pm… and there will be free popcorn!

Teen DIY Nail Art: Show your nail art skills with free supply of nail polish at Oconee Co Library on Friday at 4pm. Grades 6-12 and its free!

Crime in the Park: Oconee County Library at 1pm, spend your Friday doing puzzles and solving sherlock holmes themed mysteries. Free!


Opening Reception: come experience beautiful works of art from the UUGA artist. At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens this Friday from 4-6pm, free!

One Night Stand: A Sexuality PowerPoint Party: Put on by Revolution Therapy and Yoga this Friday starting at 5:30pm. A monthly edu-tainment event with talks by experts and enthusiast on everything having to do with sexuality. Only requiring a $10 donation.

The Hothouse: Calling all comedic enthusiast, swing by on Friday at 8pm. This is improv comedy using audience input and suggestions, with LeeAnn Peppers and Matt House. Tickets are only $10.

Yoga at the Library: on Saturday at 10am, Oglethorpe Co. Library, come enjoy yoga that will be both relaxing and easy for any age… its also free!

Miniature Painting Workshop: Come show all your art skills at Tyche’s Games on Saturday at 1pm. It is a bring your own, so bring any primed miniature that you’re ready to bring some life to, and learn the basics of painting all things mini!

Artist Market: at the Globe, at 12pm on Sunday, come browse vendors with paintings, intricate graphics, jewelry and more!

Fourth of July events:

All week:

Fantastic Fourth Celebration: at Stone Mountain Park from 11:30-9:30pm. Check out the website for details and to book tickets!


Jefferson Freedom Festival: Downtown Jefferson from 5pm to 10pm. Including live music, games, vendors, and food. And of course a firework show!

Star Spangled Classic: At Southeast Clarke Park, the festival begins at 6pm, and fireworks at 9:30pm!


Independence Day Picnic: At the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, an old school festive event, bring your picnic blankets and coolers to enjoy a patriotic concert. Begins at 5pm.

4th of July Celebration at Bryan Park: In Bryan Park, Crawford (about a ~30 min drive from Athens) come watch a firework show put on by Oglethorpe County starting at 6pm.

Prelude to the Fourth at Lawrenceville Lawn: Come celebrate the day before the Fourth on the beautiful Lawrenceville Lawn, with live music and fireworks. The DJ begins at 6pm, and the fireworks start at 9:30pm.

Thursday the Fourth:

Red, White, and BLUEberry day: at 05 Farms in Jefferson, come check out all the amazing blueberry treats on the blueberry farm! From 8-9pm

Parade, Festival, and Fireworks: In downtown Braselton come spend your fourth of July with concerts, kid friendly activities, food trucks, and of course… and amazing firework presentation! Beginning at 5pm,

Old Bishop Bash: located on Old Bishop Road in Watkinsville, come enjoy family friendly events and BBQ! Starting at 6pm
