Athens Area Weekend Roundup! June 16-18

Athentic’s 3rd Anniversary: This celebration lasts all weekend long! Join Athentic Brewing in their 3rd anniversary. Starting today with a new Belgian Trippel beer release, followed by a packed weekend of great events like mini-golf, delicious food trucks, and even a candle making class on Sunday in one of their beer cans! Athens Hip Hop Awards, 9th Edition: This great award ceremony celebrates Athens local hip-hop, black music, culture, and entrepreneurs. This red-carpet event is ages 17+, and starts at 7pm sharp at the 40 Watt Club. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Festivities include a great award ceremony and live music. Mud Day at Sandy Creek: If you’re looking for some old-fashioned fun, come celebrate Mud Day at Sandy Creek Nature Center! This event is free and for all ages. Make sure you wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. There will be a station to wash off before leaving. This event is on Saturday from 1-4 pm, and is a great activity to get everyone out of the house.

Juneteenth Celebration and Red Velvet Cake Throwdown: This Saturday at the West Broad Market and Garden, come celebrate one of Athens’ first celebrations of Juneteenth! This event is hosted by the West Broad Farmers Market and Athens Land Trust, and will be from 11am-2pm. There will be a Red Velvet Cake Throwdown, where amateur bakers are invited to bring their best red velvet cake to three local celebrity judges in hopes to win a tote back filled with items from each vendor! Abnormal Bazaar: If you’re still searching for a great homemade Father’s Day gift, or shopping for yourself, make sure to stop by the Indie South Abnormal Bazaar! This great pop-up market is full of vendors selling vintage and homemade items every 3rd Saturday of the month. There is always something great to be found! Classic City Roller Girls VS. Greensboro Roller Derby: The Classic City Roller Girls are back for their first full season since Covid! Their first home bout will be on Father’s Day, at 10:30 am! This is a fun event for all ages. Tickets are $12, children 5 and under get in free. Get your tickets here!

Cocktails & Cigars Mobile Bar- Father’s Day Date Night: Want to take your favorite dad out on Father’s Day? The Cocktails and Cigars Mobile Bar is the perfect outing on Sunday from 5-9 pm. There will be plenty of cigars, cocktails, food, jazz music, and artwork to enjoy! Tickets and more information can be found here!
